Surin Islands: One Of
The Best Diving Places In The World
The Surin islands of Thailand are located
about 55 km away from the mainland. They
are a group of five islands namely, Koh
Klang, Koh Kai, Koh Ri, Koh Surin Tai and
Koh Surin Nua. The two major islands among
these are Koh Surin Tai and Koh Surin Nua.
These islands are undoubtedly some of the
best tourist destinations of the world.
These islands have exotic beaches, amazing
resorts and hotels and splendid nightlife.
To add, these islands are known all over
the world exclusively for the incredible
snorkeling and diving opportunities that
they have to offer.
Diving - Major Attractions Of These
Islands
Among the most incredible attractions
of these islands is the sport of diving
and snorkeling. It is so because a lot of
places have coral reefs that have grown
one meter above or below the water surface
due to which the aquatic life becomes far
closer to the person who is diving. So,
in order to see and feel this marine life
more closely a lot of people travel from
all over the world to dive here.

Various Diving Sites
Diving is the most famous among water
sports in these islands. Between islands,
about ten bays are there out of which Ao
Mae Yai and Ao Luk are visited the most
by tourists and other people. In fact, both
the islands, Koh Surin Tai and Koh Surin
Nua boast of the glorious white sands and
crystal clear aqua blue waters that are
wonderfully surrounded by thick vegetation.
Richelieu Rock
Richelieu rock is one place that is known
as the best diving site on these islands.
It is a pinnacle of limestone that is carpeted
with dense covering of purple and pink colored
corals. Here, there are ample opportunities
available for scuba divers, both who are
new to the sport and are learning, and those
who are experts in scuba diving. It is the
only place in the world where whale sharks
can be seen almost on a daily basis and
more people are attracted to this dive site.
It Is An Advanced Dive Site
Though the visibility might be limited
at times, Richelieu is still a very advanced
dive site. It is a great dive site as far
as manta rays are concerned as a lot of
them can be seen here at regular intervals.
As this place is situated in open seas,
the currents over here can often be strong
with choppy surface conditions.

The season for diving begins at Richelieu
rock in the month of November and goes on
till the month of April when the sport of
diving can be enjoyed to its maximum. People
who are interested and keen on diving with
whale sharks should visit the place during
the months of February and May. It is so
because whale sharks can be seen in more
frequency during these months. The best
thing is that the sport is cheaper here
than any other part of the world.
